Datorama Limitless 2018: A Customer-centric Success!

For the second year, Datorama hosted its annual customer summit, Limitless. With over 300 marketers, industry analysts and data-focused luminaries in attendance, we set the benchmark high to deliver an experience unlike any other.

From the initial feedback we’ve received, we’re proud to have exceeded expectations.

To make our guests feel welcome in the Big Apple, Datorama held a pre-event celebration the eve of Limitless. At Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, attendees enjoyed an exceptional wine tasting and indulged in an opportunity to network among industry peers. We’re happy to report that some participants got along so swimmingly they extended the night’s festivities around greater Manhattan. .

As we’ve always wanted to provide guests with a distinctive experience that is decidedly “anti-conference,” this year’s event was held at the Flatiron District’s SECOND Floor. Known for its airy feel, exposed brick walls and lots of natural sunlight, it provides a distinct New York atmosphere.

With more than 25 guest speakers presenting throughout the one-day affair, our goal was to share with the Datorama community the challenges other real-world marketing leaders are confronting and how they surmount them. But, we wanted to kick off the day with a special touch.

Leading off the event was special keynote speaker, Billy Beane, executive vice president of baseball operations at the Oakland A’s. Known for being a trailblazer in Major League Baseball (MLB), he essentially reshaped the way professional baseball organizations are run. Beane’s data-driven approach was the subject of Michael Lewis’ book Moneyball, which was later adapted into a 2011 blockbuster film. In his presentation, Beane discussed how the hiring of an unconventional staff and tapping into 150 years of baseball statistics yielded an outcome that was unexpected, at best.

Following this, attendees were treated to a slew of focused, “real talk” presentations that surrounded three key marketing components: Transparency, speed and growth. As these are three major areas where today’s marketers are striving to see progress, we wanted to show our guests how leaders at companies like Electronic Arts, FordDirect, Ticketmaster, Land O’Lakes, Warner Brothers, GroupM, IPG, Valassis and others, are driving results for their businesses.

Participants were treated to two additional keynote presentations, which included industry expert/former Gartner analyst, and now Salesforce Marketing Cloud’s senior vice president of product strategy, Martin Kihn. Kihn spoke about “The New Dynamics of the Data-Driven Brand.” In addition, Brian Weiser, who’s known as “The most quoted man in advertising,” enlightened the audience with his perspective about the state of the marketing ecosystem.

This year felt extra special as we had a chance to highlight our all-star customers with the inaugural Limitless Awards. The competition was tough and we had to make some difficult decisions. Stay tuned for the full list of this year’s winners.
